read more day by day

dear tuesday,

You're a thorn in my side anymore. I feel the farthest down on Tuesdays lately. How can that be? Shouldn't that be Monday's job?

I'm not sure why Tuesdays are so bad lately. Maybe it's the recent weather pattern or the fact that I'm cooped up working from home all day. I have more time to think on Tuesdays. That's probably not a good thing, really.

The uninterrupted thoughts in my mind include the trial and error of finding our next home. Not only that, but the realization that our daughter has been dealing with her own anxiety from our confusing life. It doesn't matter how simple you try to make life or how much junk you remove from it, you can't keep life from happening to your children.

It's been said that parenting is the toughest job to be had. Those who aren't parents have no idea what kind of weight it is to know that you're directly reponsible for the mental health of someone else. Who signs up for that?!

This is the part where I would typically try to reference a Bible verse and make us all feel better or at least have something to ponder, but not today. Today is just too heavy and my shoulders are aching. I need to move past the doldrums of Tuesday and try to salvage what's left of it ... for my baby girl's sake.

give it away

Worry is not for today. It does not give more time, but steals time.
Worry is an infestation. It's a million tiny ants marching through your body, making you ache, cringe, and writhe in discomfort.
Worry is a burden. It's a heavy load that was never intended to be carried.
Worry is nearly unavoidable. I'm carrying it with me now. It's heavy, my body aches from the weight of it, and it's stealing my time.

Release this worry? Yes. Through prayer to a Lord who is mighty to save and more than willing to carry it for you, worry can be released. Is it easy to give up? As much as no one likes to worry, we are all stubborn to give it away. There is so much joy to be received and experienced if we push the troubles aside, knowing that there is a Creator in control of it. We need not manage every aspect of life, most certainly not the things that are out of our control, when God is at the helm.

Tonight I will try to take my own advice and give my worry to the One who can carry it.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." -Matthew 11:28-30

still a work in progress

Character Makeover: 40 Days with a Life Coach to Create the Best YouI'm reading a new book (well, new to me) by Katie Brazelton called Character Makeover: 40 Days with a Life Coach to Create the Best You. Yes, I'm into self-help books. No, I'm not crazy. I'm trying to be a better wife, mom, friend, and Christian, and I do look to books for help. I'm only on Day One of this book, but so far it's a good study, with Biblical verses to read, respond to, and reflect on. With this book, I can focus on humility, to begin with, and move on to confidence, courage, self-control, patience, contentment, generosity, and perseverance. If you know me, you know that I can use help in many of these areas, if not all. I think we all can, to some degree.
